Massachusetts and its Many Hiking Trails

Let’s talk about hiking trails in Massachusetts. Our home state offers a plethora of scenic routes with a range of difficulty. From Western, Mass to the suburbs of Boston, there is so much to explore. With warm weather (hopefully) here to stay through the remainder of Spring here are a few places we recommend you stretch out your legs at and take advantage of the beautiful landscapes the state has to offer:




  1. Mount Greylock State Reservation - Located in the Berkshires, Mount Greylock is the highest peak in Massachusetts, with an elevation of 3,491 feet. The reservation offers a variety of hiking trails, ranging from easy to challenging, that take you through scenic forests, waterfalls, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The Appalachian Trail also runs through Mount Greylock, making it a popular spot for hikers from all over.

  2. The Blue Hills Reservation - Located just outside of Boston, the Blue Hills Reservation offers a network of trails that are perfect for day hikes or longer excursions. With over 125 miles of trails, hikers can explore diverse landscapes such as rocky outcroppings, forests, and ponds. One of the most popular hikes is the Skyline Trail, which takes you to the top of Great Blue Hill, the highest point in the reservation.

  3. The Mohawk Trail State Forest - The Mohawk Trail State Forest is a vast, mountainous forest located in western Massachusetts. With over 6,000 acres of forests, rivers, and streams, it offers a variety of hiking trails. Hikers can enjoy views of the rolling hills, scenic waterfalls, and abundant wildlife.

  4. The Wachusett Mountain State Reservation - The Wachusett Mountain State Reservation is located in central Massachusetts and offers a variety of hiking trails, including the challenging 2.5-mile hike to the summit of Wachusett Mountain. The summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, and on a clear day, you can see as far as Boston.

  5. The Appalachian Trail - The Appalachian Trail is a 2,200-mile-long trail that runs from Georgia to Maine, and a section of it passes through Massachusetts. One of the most well-known trails in the country, the Massachusetts section of the trail offers some of the most scenic and challenging hiking in the state, with rugged terrain, steep climbs, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.


Whether you're an experienced hiker or just starting out, Massachusetts offers a wealth of hiking opportunities. From the scenic forests of the Berkshires to the rugged terrain of the Appalachian Trail, there's something for everyone. So pack your hiking boots and hit the trails!
